Dingo

A TODDLER was lucky to have escaped with only bite wounds to her legs when attacked by two dingoes on Queensland's Fraser Island, one of her rescuers said.
Both of the wild dogs were later captured and destroyed by park rangers.
The dingoes had been sitting on the beach about 50 metres from a group of people waiting at Hook Point for a barge to take them to the mainland on Monday afternoon, said David Law, who was among the group.

The girl, 3, walked over a sand dune and into bushes, possibly to go to the toilet, and the dogs ran in her direction.
''They obviously saw her go into the bushes and were opportunistic and made a beeline for her,'' Mr Law said yesterday.
''I started running and yelling and waving, but no one could hear me because the wind was blowing in my direction. It's breeding season and they can be quite territorial. They basically had her on the ground for about five to 10 seconds. I got there first with another guy running from the opposite direction … and chased the dogs away.''
The state Department of Environment manager, Terry Harper, said the girl, who was with her family, was taken to Gympie Hospital for treatment.
