Fergus Cullen, a former state GOP chair who now consults and writes a column for the Union Leader, says he was invited to meet with the real estate mogul — and refused.
"I was actually invited to meet with him, but I told them I had other things scheduled, which was true," Cullen told POLITICO. "The truth is that it wasn't a very tempting offer. I think it's irresponsible for Donald Trump to be fanning the flames of [the birther] controversy.

Trump is in New Hampshire Wednesday, meeting with Republican officials and making a few campaign stops. He arrived in the morning to the news that President Barack Obama had released a long-form birth certificate — something Trump had demanded in pushing widely discredited doubts about Obama’s birthplace back onto the national radar in recent weeks.
"I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish," Trump said in Portsmouth, taking credit for the release. "I want to look at it, but I hope it's true so we can get onto much more important matters, so the press can stop asking me questions," Trump said.
While he's in New Hampshire, Trump is attending a GOP fundraiser and will meet with the current state GOP chairman, Jack Kimball.
He had initially kept his schedule under wraps, citing security concerns. But after he took heat for having an entourage larger than most presidents do in a place where retail politicking and handshaking is the norm, he released the full itinerary.
