Quill |
The Democrat’s decision to run again sets up a return mayoral contest between Quill and former Republican Mayor Timothy Lattimore, who has already announced his candidacy. In 2007, Quill derailed Lattimore’s bid for a second four-year term.
“I will be asking the voters of Auburn for their consideration of my re-election and I look forward to discussing the issues facing the city during the fall campaign,’’ Quill said in an electronic message to The Post-Standard.
Lattimore offered this response to Quill’s re-election announcement: “Mike has done his best and that’s why I’m running.’’
In his release, Quill said he has restored leadership, trust and confidence in the mayor’s office and he has worked to bring new opportunities for growth and progress to Auburn.
Quill called for a mayoral campaign that focuses on issues and solutions that are relevant to the city and its future. He said he would start campaigning in earnest in the fall.
For now, the Democrat said he is focused on helping prepare the city’s 2011-12 budget and searching for a new city manager to replace Mark Palesh, whose last official day on the job is Friday.
“There will be plenty of time for campaigning once the election season arrives this fall,’’ Quill said.
