The body was found March 24 outside the Bayvue Apartments in Woodbridge after firefighters extinguished a blaze in the trash container.
Through evidence collected at the scene, police said Saturday that they have identified the woman as 25-year-old Erica Dawn Maynor, who also went by Kitty or Kit. She frequented the Fairfax, Alexandria, Woodbridge and Washington, D.C., areas, but had no fixed address.
Maynor's death is classified as a suspicious death while the investigation continues.
Anyone who had contact with Maynor around the time of her death or anyone who knows anything about her, such as a last known address, is urged to contact police.
