NFL Draft 2011 |
The San Francisco 49ers are drafting seventh in the 2011 NFL draft and there are plenty of positions they can address. The position most people care about -- quarterback -- is potentially a position of need. The 49ers may bring back QB Alex Smith as new head coach John Harbaugh has publicly said he likes him.
SB Nation's Niners Nation isn't sure a quarterback will be there at No. 7 but thinks at some point they'll address the position.
The 49ers only QB under contract at this point is David Carr and new head coach Jim Harbaugh is viewed as a groomer of young QBs. No matter what happens in free agency or via trade, I'd be stunned if the 49ers didn't draft a QB. Andrew Luck was the ultimate desire but with him going back to school, none of the other first round-graded QBs is particularly appealing at the seventh overall pick. Instead I'd imagine the 49ers will look for a QB in the middle rounds, with guys like Christian Ponder and Colin Kaepernick potentially on the radar.
Other positions they could be looking at include cornerback and linebacker.
49ers fans are salivating over Patrick Peterson, while Von Miller has entered the discussion as well. A lot of mocks have the 49ers grabbing Prince Amukamara in part because Peterson and Miller are off the board. However, the potential rise of guys like Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert could allow talented players to drop to the 49ers seventh pick.
Niners Nation selected CB Prince Amukamara with the seventh pick in SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft so he'll be on the board assuming Peterson doesn't fall.
The 49ers have plenty of options come April 28 wen they walk up to the podium for the seventh pick. For more on the 49ers draft day plans, check out Niners Nation.
