Lucknow

Lucknow
Athelte Sonu Sinha, who lost her leg after she was pushed out of the train near Bareilly on Monday night, was on Saturday shifted from Bareilly hospital to Trauma Centre at Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU), Lucknow for further treatment. The treatment at CSMMU will involve a surgery on her amputated leg so that an artificial limb can be fitted on it suitably.

Sonu is still in severe pain. Her cousin Satyendra said she had vomitted twice while she was being shifted from Bareilly to Lucknow hospital. Talking to The Sunday Express, the 23-year-old player said, “There should be better security for passengers on trains. I did not see any security personnel in my compartment. Had there been some security people available there, then this incident could have been avoided.”

When asked about the job offer and the monetary help promised to her, Sonu said money cannot return what she had lost but she was thankful to all those who had offered her help. Regarding her treatment she said she was “satisfied with the treatment at the Bareilly hospital and also at CSMMU” so far. Sonu said in the changed circumstances now she wanted to open a sports college for the poor but talented athletes. “I have decided to give the money which I have received as help for the sports college so that underprivileged children can showcase their talent to the world. I hope people will help me in this cause.”
Talking to media persons, CSMMU V-C Dr DK Gupta said the hospital was equipped with all the facilities. “She will soon be shifted to the ICU where there are better facilities like AC, regular monitoring and X-Rays.” He said Professor Vineet Sharma and Dr Ajay Sharma will be in charge of Sonu.”
Regarding the course of the treatment, he said there is no haste for surgery which is needed for the adjustment of the artificial limb. “First, we will let her become better and then perform the surgery,” he said.

When asked about the offers being made by different organisations and institutes for providing a good artificial limb to Sonu , he said they will be consulting them if such a need arises.

Sonu’s mother Gyanbala Sinha said she was highly thankful to the staff at the Bareilly hospital. “BC Yadav, a pharmacist, had donated his blood to Sonu even before we reached there,” he said.
