Living Social

Living Social
Apparently so many bargain hunters were on the prowl for LivingSocial’s $1 lunch dealthis Friday in Washington D.C. that the site slowed down for national users as well. You’d think that with a deal like that – where more than 100 area restaurants located within a mile from your location participated – the silly little website would take some precautions.
We all know about daily deal websites like LivingSocial and Groupon, and not just because we use them every day. This year, Groupon’s young CEO Andrew Mason was named a “man to watch” as he turns his company into a billion dollar brand and really showed Google who was boss. Though the $1 lunch deal in DC instantly slumped down servers for the area, the rest of the LivingSocial nation also felt the pressure from the daily deal doses. Luckily for us on the west coast, the lunch time rush is almost over.
It’s pretty obvious that residents in our nation’s capital need as much help as they can get in savingmoney, so this $1 lunch deal will inevitably follow suit for other cities. For right now, picking up a $20 lunch for only $1 is already unheard of in this age of daily deals – and while it seems a little shaky, we’re not going to question this unique money saving plan.
Despite today’s glitch, LivingSocial’s growth hasn’t suspended expansion plans. Already in more 250 markets, additional daily deals will move on to North Charlotte and Charlotte, North Carolina; Waco, Texas; Long Beach and Ventura County, California and Reno, Nevada.
"Continuing with the momentum we've forged across the U.S. and internationally, we're pleased to offer LivingSocial experiences to consumers in more than 250 markets," says Tim O'Shaughnessy, CEO of LivingSocial, in a press release. "This recent expansion comes just in time for warmer weather, when consumers are looking to escape the confines of their homes and experience their city to the fullest. We're excited to bring those experiences to life at an incredible value."
