Like millions of little girls, Regina Mayer wanted a pony but sadly, was stymied by her parents. Also like millions of little girls, Mayer was raised to believe in cows that can jump over the moon. So with a saddle, tons of treats and some gentle cajoling, Mayer's galloping, hurdle-jumping cow is making headlines around the world.

"She thinks she's a horse," Mayer told the Associated Press Monday.

Not only can the cow gallop and carry Mayer on long walks through the nearby woods along the Austrian-German border, Mayer has even taught the cow to jump a makeshift hurdle of beer crates and painted logs.

When Luna was born just two years ago, Regina took a shine to the young calf and would often go for walks with her. After getting the cow acclimated with human contact, she tried out riding.

"She was really well behaved and walked normally," Mayer told AP. "But after a couple of meters, she wanted me to get off! You could see that she got a bit peeved."

The pair are now inseparable, with Mayer taking the cow on hour-long rides each day. It seems she finally made her dreams a reality.

It's a lot of work "but I enjoy it," Mayer said.
