It was the first win of the season for Dillon, the grandson of NASCAR team owner Richard Childress.
"Coming to the last lap I didn't even know what lap it was," Dillon said. "We had so much oil on the windshield."
But his spotter told him it was "go time" and Dillon went. He got out in front ofBobby Gerhart on the outside coming through the tri-oval and got his nose past Kimmel at the stripe.
"It looked like an Earnhardt move on that last lap," Childress said of his famous driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Kimmel wasn't happy with finishing second at Talladega for the third time in his long career.
"Just disappointed," the nine-time ARCA champion said. "I blocked all the way through the tri-oval and probably should have blocked all the way to the start-finish."
Gerhart finished third. He had been leading the outside line challenging Kimmel on the inside when Dillon moved in front of him.
"I just didn't have any help," Gerhart said of the cars behind him. "I thought I had it covered.
Grant Enfinger of Fairhope was leading the race when it restarted with less than 10 laps to go. But he got too far out in front of the rest of the field and was freight-trained. He finished 13th.
Former IndyCar driver Milka Duno finished 19th and Canadian driver Maryeve Dufault was 12th.
Hal Martin, a former track champion at Mobile International Speedway who is from Louisiana, smacked the inside wall hard and finished 28th.
