People from all walks of life and age groups were part of this march, which began at Nal Stop and ended at Balgandharva Rangmandir. The organisers said citizens’ response to the march was overwhelming.
KK Iyer, spokesperson of Professionals Party of India (PPI), one of the organisers, said mandap owners volunteered to provide services for free. “When we visited a stationery shop to buy pads and pens in bulk for the march, the shopkeeper provided items for free. The reason for this was simple: they wanted to be involved in the fight against corruption,” he said.
Pamphlets were also distributed to highlight the cause and raise public awareness. Prominent activists — among them Sajag Nagrik Manch’s Vivek Velankar and Jugal Rathi, Creative Foundation’s Sandeep Khardekar, Right to Information Forum for Instant Information (RFII) convener Vinita Deshmukh — and others took part in the event. Also present were volunteers from the Art of Living, Gyan Setu and Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan.
Many activists also staged a token one day fast at the Balgandharva Rangmandir Chowk, where hundreds of citizens dropped in to sign a petition supporting the cause.
