Anna Hazare |
The turnout, however, was poor. Students of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-Kgp) organised a day-long token fast on Wednesday inside their campus. Eight students from the departments of Chemical engineering and Physics decided to undertake fast and express their solidarity towards Hazare's cause for probity in public life.
On Thursday, 30 Kolkatans from various walks of life took to the streets and sat on a fast from 3pm till 9pm at the crossing of Camac Street and Park Street. From 6 pm onwards, this group also started a candle light vigil.
"We strongly feel for the cause. Thus, we took the decision to sit in a candle light vigil as well as start a fast," said activist Mudar Patheria.
On Friday, too, the group will sit in a daylong fasting. "If Anna Hazare continues his hunger strike, we too might go ahead and keep the hunger strike on," added Patheria.
Another citizens' group, Udaypath and We The Common People, had held a similar candle light vigil at Shyambazar crossing on Tuesday which was attended by 300 people.
